What to Expect:

• All students are required to show up 15 mins early, help with set-up the gear and clean-up to maximize time on water.
• The faster the instructor gets you on the ski for your water lesson, the longer your water time will be!
• Water tends to be a bit cool, so wetsuit, life jacket, helmet, booties are required sunscreen is a must for all lessons.
• If you are planning to head out for a land lesson with the trainer kite, it is a good idea to have a hat and tennis shoes.

How to prepare:

• Be honest about ability, skipping steps only hinders progression; we teach you at your own pace, we won’t hold you back or push you beyond your limit
• Watch instructional DVD’s (Nor Cal Instructors Recommend Progression Beginner Instructional Kiteboarding DVD)
• Fly trainer kite if you can get one 1-5 hours
• Hydrate
• Don’t over exercise before lesson
• Come with a positive attitude
• Call and confirm lesson the day of to check wind

• Come well rested (try to avoid a late night before hand)

Board leashes:

• Our school recommends learning without a board leash.
• Board leashes have been the culprits in many accidents over the years.
• An important step in learning how to kiteboard is to learn the up-wind side stroke so that you can drag yourself back to your board.
• If you decide to use a board leash, then for your safety we recommend a helmet.
• The safest leash out there is the reel leash.

What makes a good first board:

• Proper size to weight and ability
• A Board that is bit bigger and more floaty is easyer to learn on (138-158)

What makes a good first harness:

There are two different styles;

• Seat
• Waist

We recommend the seat harness for your first harness because it offers more support and provides a centered balance. Harness’s are like tennis shoes, they all work, but some fit better than others. Go by Nor Cal Surf Shop Burlingame and try all of them on our simulator to see what works best for you.

History Of Nor Cal Kite School

In 2003, Jeff Kafka started Wind Over Water. There was a lack of quality kitesurfing instruction on the West Coast and he did not want his friends to go through the same ordeal learning to kitesurf as he expereinced. Rob Kindt and Tai Merrick joined the team in 2004 bringing years of kiteboarding experience on the delta, as well as general water knowledge to the table. With 1000’s of lessons under our belts, we’ve shared the stoke with kids as young as 8, and adults as old as 83. These experiences have made us highly qualified and able to cater the lessons to the student’s own backgrounds and skill levels. We are now recognized as being one of the top instructional programs worldwide. Our one-on-one instruction and assistance have been proven to be the most effective way for students to progress in the sport

Wind Over Water Kitesurfing School has now merged with Nor Cal Surf Shop. Jeff Kafka choose the San Francisco Bay Area as the home base for his kitesurfing school because of the consistent wind and variety of riding conditions. From beginner to expert, the Bay Area has conditions to get every rider stoked.

All Kitesurfing lessons are booked though Nor Cal Surf Shop Burlingame, you can also get great deals on kiting gear if you get your lesson package through the shop.

Lesson terms and conditions:

• No show lessons are full price
• Late lessons do not go into new scheduled lesson times
• 2 hour min lesson times
• Students are responsible for repairing lost or damaged items
• School is not responsible for student’s damaged gear
• No carry overs from last year (need to have lessons taken within 6 months)
• WOW has right to re-schedule or cancel lessons due to poor or dangerous wind conditions
